We were honored to have such a distinguished speaker, especially with such a flamboyant career, currently working in Vienna at the Reais and Chateaoux Restaurant under the two Michelin stars chef Joahnna Maier. To add to the visit, chef Mireli designed one of his special menus especially for the Tower Restaurant.

Tourism Moodle

In order to enhance application of information technology in learning process, Tourism Faculty set up Moodle system. A total of 14 instructors of the faculty are using the Moodle within the context of 10 courses in postgraduate degrees and 24 courses in undergraduate level. Moodle offers a range of functionality designed around a core structure of a customizable homepage with learning activities organized into “courses”. Students are given login access to the Moodle and then enrolled on “courses” relevant to them. Each course can be designed to include resources and activities. Activities available in Moodle correspond to the modules included in the core Moodle code and each course can use any combination of activities and resources. Typical activities include: assignment, quizzes, hot potato questionnaire, forum, chat, messages, RSS feeds, Wiki or SCORM content. Typical resources include: files, links or html pages. Instructors can mark and review assignments, view and download answers and results, control timing of events, block and monitor access.
Link address of the Moodle is http://tourismoodle.emu.edu.tr/

GUVEN HOCA’S WINE TASTING EXPERIENCE

In the third week of November, 2012, Tourism academician, Dr. Guven Ardahan was one of the fortunate guests invited to the annual Kavaklidere wine tasting expo at the Hilton Hotel, Ankara. As part of their wide range of wines, Kavaklidere exclusively introduced their latest wine named Beaujolais Nouveau, previously known as Primeur to a range of special guests, including Mr, Ardahan before it markets the product to the general public. As part of the growing wine market, it is vital that students in the field of Culinary Arts and Tourism be aware of such events and progression of wine culture in Turkey and around the world thus hope more opportunities arise within this field for both our instructors and students to experience.
