Students of EMU Tourism Faculty Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Program Receive Training in Italy

Within the framework of the collaboration protocol between Eastern Mediterranean University and the Italian Culinary Institute For Foreigners (ICIF), students of EMU Tourism Faculty Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Program traveled to Italy to receive training on the Italian Cuisine.

Following the launch of Eastern Mediterranean University Culinary Arts Associate Program, which started its educational activities during the 2010 – 2011 Academic Year and produced its first graduates at the end of 2011 – 2012 Academic Year, Eastern Mediterranean University Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Undergraduate Program started offering education to 75 students at the beginning of the 2014-2015 Academic Year. With the aim of equipping the students with skills that would prepare them for global competition following their graduation, the faculty administration settled a collaboration agreement with ICIF – Italian Culinary Institute For Foreigners.

EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Osam stated their pleasure and pride in establishing collaborations with ICIF, an important institution of education with a chain of schools throughout the world. Prof. Dr. Osam thanked EMU Tourism Faculty Acting Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç and his team for giving the students the opportunity to discover the Italian cuisine in its natural context through ICIF. Prof. Dr. Osam also added that Eastern Mediterranean University will further develop its international collaborations regarding Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Program.

EMU Tourism Faculty Acting Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç stated that as part of the aforesaid collaboration agreement with ICIF, a group of 10 students have been sent to Italy for educational purposes. Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç added that the second group of students are finalising the preparations to start their training in Italy. Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç stated that following the launch of the Culinary Arts Associate Program in 2010, they opened the four-year Gastronomy and Culinary Arts undergraduate program due to popular demand. Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç added that their main target is to fully equip their students for their prospective careers with international collaborations. Stating the importance of establishing collaborations with the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners which has branches in different countries including China, Brazil, and Korea, Prof. Dr. Kılıç once again highlighted the importance of their cooperation with ICIF.

Stating that the students studying at the program are lucky, Prof. Dr. Kılıç added that Italian chefs working at ICIF will also be invited to the university to deliver training on the details of the Italian cuisine. Prof. Dr. Kılıç also put forth that along with their training, students will also have the chance to work at Michelin starred restaurants.
