EMU Faculty of Tourism Organizes International Day of Peace Event

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Tourism students carried out an “International Day of Peace” event under the coordination of EMU Community Involvement Center Executive Board Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Nazenin Ruso. The event aimed towards Syrian and Palestinian students took place at the Nicosia Mayza Park Café with the slogan ‘Wishing for a world without war’. 

EMU students from Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Nigeria, China, Turkmenistan, Palestine, Jordan, Russia, Turkey, Egypt and Pakistan participated in the event performing local dance and songs. The children showed great interest in the event at which cross-cultural interaction was high. The event featured a range of different activities such as a local garment fashion show, a cupcake competition, a clown performance, balloon games, modelling clay and an illusion show.

EMU Faculty of Tourism Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç noted that with the money raised from the sale of food prepared by EMU Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts students during the Tourism Festival the children were purchased shoes, clothes, sandals and other requirements. Prof. Dr. Kılıç also expressed his gratitude to Unipass Ltd. representative Yeşim Direl for hiring the venue in Lefkoşa and providing catering sponsorship. At the end of the event which aimed to introduce different cultures to primary school students, the Palestinian and Syrian students prepared thank you cards for the EMU students in Turkish and Arabic.
