EMU Tourism Faculty Commences 2022-23 Academic Year with a Ceremony

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Tourism Faculty organized 2022-23 Academic Year Opening Ceremony on Monday, 31 October 2022 at 11:00 at Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall. EMU Board of Trustees member Ersun Kutup, EMU Tourism Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç, EMU Human Resources Director Özlem Avcı, academic staff members and students attended the event which hosted the Chairman of the Higher Education Planning, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK) Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı as a guest speaker.

Began with a Moment of Silence and the National Anthem, the ceremony continued with Prof. Dr. Kılıç’s speech. Welcoming everyone attending the event, Prof. Dr. Kılıç emphasized that universities should always maintain their three main missions, namely education, research and community service. Prof. Dr. Kılıç stated that EMU in general, and the Faculty of Tourism in particular, are among the distinguished institutions not only in the country but also in the world, underlining that as a faculty, they carry out student-centered, quality and research-oriented studies. Providing information about EMU Tourism Faculty, Prof. Dr. Kılıç noted that they offer internship opportunities to many students, and that they support their career planning thanks to the collaborations with international institutions. Prof. Dr. Kılıç stated that EMU Tourism Faculty was again among the best in the world in the 2022 World Universities Academic Rankings by ShanghaiRanking. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Kılıç added that the faculty’s aim is to open a doctoral program in Gastronomy during the new academic semester and wished the new academic year to be beneficial for everyone.

During his presentation titled “Success in Tourism Sector and Career Strategies”, Prof. Dr. Avcı welcomed everyone and expressed that management is not only about giving instructions, but also being compassionate, supporting and guiding. Mentioning about his own career path, Prof. Dr. Avcı emphasized that the learning is a life-long activity. Saying that the students should be asked the question of “What do I want to be?”, Prof. Dr. Avcı stated that professionalism is very important in the global world and the students must be specific in their field of expertise. Advising the students to set accessible goals, Prof. Dr. Avcı advised that they should reach their goals step by step and that they should always aim higher. Prof. Dr. Kılıç presented Prof. Dr. Avcı a plaque of appreciation at the end of the ceremony.
