Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Tourism gave a hands-on training seminar on “First Aid, Emergency Response and Fire Fighting” to the students of the School of Tourism and Hotel Management, Civil Aviation Cabin Services, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts programs. The seminar was held at EMU Tourism Faculty seminar hall in the form of theoretical and practical training.
At the seminar in which Kamil Ağcabay, the Regional Director of the TRNC Civil Defense Organization, was also present, the aforesaid training was offered by the trainers of the TRNC Civil Defense Organization Hasan Özboltaşlı, Osman Demirli and Savaş Güneş. The first aid training offered to students against incidents that may occur after accidents and emergencies aimed for students to approach such incidents consciously. During the first aid training, the students were provided information on how to intervene in cases of injuries and emergency health problems. It was stated in the seminar that first aid training should be made a common practice in order to minimize deaths and permanent injuries caused by accidents and injuries. It was also pointed out that 10 percent of deaths occur within the first five minutes of accidents.
In the seminar, during which fire and firefighting measures were also explained, a fire drill was held after the theoretical training in order to enable the students to intervene in the fire. The fire, which was lit in a controlled manner by the TRNC Civil Defense Organization teams, was put out with fire extinguishers under the control of instructors. At the end of the event, a certificate of appreciation was presented to the TRNC Civil Defense Organization staff for their contributions, and a certificate of participation was given to those who took part in the event.
