The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Tourism, Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts is preparing to host world famous chef Tom Aikens who is also the owner of the double Michelin starred restaurant collection Tom's Kitchen. Tom's Kitchen group chef Richard O'Connell will also be hosted by the university. The duo will be coming together with students at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center on Wednesday, the 2nd of May 2018 between 10:00 and 12:00 where a workshop and talk will be taking place.

Who is Tom Aikens?

Tom Aikens was born in 1970 and received his education at the Norwich City College Hotel School along with his two sisters. Upon graduation he worked in some of England's best restaurants. Pierre Koffman's restaurant Tante Claire received its third Michelin star whilst Tom was working there and Pied à Terre received its second.

Tom who is seen as one of the most exciting chefs in England opened his first restaurant in April 2003. Tom Aikens Restaurant in Chelsea, London started receiving praise and awards soon after it was opened. The restaurant that received it first Michelin star in 2004, was renovated and renewed in 2012. Tom set up his brasserie style second restaurant Tom's Kitchen in 2006. After the initial branch in Chelsea, Tom set up a branch in Somerset House in 2009 and in Canary Wharf in 2013. The first international restaurant of the collection was set up in İstanbul in 2013.
