EMU Faculty of Tourism Represented at UNTWO Themis Tedqual Networking Congress

The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Tourism was represented at the World Tourism Organization (UNTWO) TEDQUAL NETWORKING congress in Andorra where its Tourism and Hospitality Management Undergraduate Program was accredited. EMU was represented at the congress by EMU Tourism Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç.

At the congress where EMU was the only university from Turkey or the TRNC collaborations with top tourism executives were assessed. In addition joint projects and collaborations between universities from different countries were discussed by Tourism Faculty deans and administrators.

The congress was attended by UNWTO-THEMIS Foundation Executive Director Omar Waldez, Andorra Minister of Education Eric Jover Comas, Andorra Prime Minister Antoni Martí and UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili. The opening session of the congress touched upon tourism’s manpower policy for now and the near future. The direction and development of tourism education was examined. Emphasis was laid on the importance and responsibilities of TEDQUAL accredited universities.

At the second session of the congress a final declaration was produced in the light of discussions of university deans, chairs and directors under the main headings of touristic products, tourism education and tourism marketing.

Presentations were delivered by deans and directors from universities with TEDQUAL accreditation. Prof. Dr. Kılıç’s presentation on practices at EMU was shown as an example of good practice and recorded to be shown to all members and universities by UNWTO.

In accordance with UNWTO’s understanding tourism deans, chairs, directors and administrators from universities all over the world took a resolution to carry out joint academic work and develop collaborations.
